Tagged Under : Computers and technology, Games, Video Games
We live in an age where every kid wants to get their hands on the latest rapid fire mods and many would do anything to have their dads get them rapid fire chip. Many parents have made video games a way of getting their kids to stay put and the modding xbox controller is the latest babysitter- a way for parents to get on with their jobs without worrying about their children. Is this tendency without consequences? Below are some advantages and disadvantages of video games:
Advantages
* Social factor- kids who were previousely very timid have been said to open up after playing video games.
* Detracts from pain- many kids with injuries or illnesses find comfort in playing video games. They feel less pain when they focus on the game.
* Improves Creativity- most video games require a bit of creativeness. Childrens’ creativity can be boosted greatly by such games.
* Improves Cognitive skills- majority of games involve a lot of problem solving and strategy. Kids learn to think on their feet and find solutions to situations.
* Hightens Self Confidence- all kids love to boast about their achievements in the latest game they’re playing. They will have higher self confidence in general if they discover they are good at something even if its at video games.
Cons
* Ruins the eyes- hours spent in front of screens are known to destroy ones’ vision. If a child has his vision destroyed at such an early age, he’ll suffer his whole life.
* Robs time- we all know that video games are really addictive and once kids are hooked, their schoolwork and other activities will be affected greatly. They’ll have a very empty childhood.
* No physical work involved- many kids who are hooked on games end up becoming obese. Kids with weight issues will be prone to teasing at school and are more likely to have health problems.
* Waste of money- think of all the hundreds of dollars spend on getting the latest games or even the electricity consumed. Money that is hard to come up with and could have been used better.
* Violence- today’s games aren’t innocent! Violence, blood and gore are the main features. It has been found that kids who were exposed to very violent games as kids are more likely to become violent or even criminals.
* Bad parenting- its a fact- parents who let the video games do the baby sitting aren’t doing their jobs. Many families lack needed communication because of these games.
Well, those are facts. Yes, they do have their advantages but it would be wise to think twice before letting your child have his way. Never should video take the place of good parenting.
